The debut album from Jorja Smith has been one of much anticipation. She’s a breath of fresh air for R&B hailing from the UK and looks that are to die for. What really makes her a problem in R&B is her amazing voice.
In 12 songs Jorja doesn’t shoot for the radio, and stays away from the pop sound you might expect to hear if you’ve heard a song by her like “On My Mind.” It’s her and a more calm/slow type vibe throughout. She doesn’t get lost in that vibethough, the vibes get lost in her. It’s whatever she wants here. The album thrives in that minimal sound, based off the fact her strongest untensil is her own voice. With that voice she creates magic on songs like “On Your Own” or the amazing “Wandering Romance,” the latter probably being the strongest song on the album.
