Detroit’s Payroll Giovanni is back with another tape, a few months removed from dropping the excellent Big Bossin’ Vol.2. This time, he’s back to his Detroit roots with a tape for the streets. He’s traded in the fun west coast sound for the hard nosed Detroit one and it’s something to love if you like aggresive music.

4-1 P is produced entirely by Payroll and he shows off some pretty good producing chops. What sticks out here is how Payroll kills every verse and leaves very little room for error here. The intro “4-1P” is 3 minutes worth of Payroll barely taking a breath and rapping about being from Fenkell, luxury cars and shouting out his fallen comrade RJ.

The features are an all Detroit/Doughboyz affair with HBK, Big Quis, Dre Armani and more all dropping verse here. Big Quis has one of the best verses on the tape on “Hypnotized,” which is an ode to a woman’s obsession with a mans watch. There are many gems to unpack here, and clearly Payroll has more to offer to rap for time to come.
