Chance The Rapper’s struggles with the media of his hometown, Chicago, (specifically The Sun-Times) has been documented. Yet, to combat this, Chance decided to take matters into his own hands (or pockets) by purchasing the news website, Chicagoist.com.

Chance used his latest single “Might Need Security,” to bash the obscure politics of Chicago and announce that he now owns the site which laid dormant since Nov. 2017.

“I’m extremely excited to be continuing the work of the Chicagoist, an integral local platform for Chicago news, events and entertainment,” Chance told the Chicago Tribune following the track’s release and reveal of his ownership. “I look forward to relaunching it and bringing the people of Chicago an independent media outlet focused on amplifying diverse voices and content.”

By buying The Chicagoist, Chance further solidifies his position as arguably the most important rapper to hail from Chicago. A statement that fellow Chicagoian, G Herbo, emphasized when he explained how Chance has more influence in Chicago than any other entertainer, including Kanye West.

“If Chance and Kanye were to do the exact same thing for the exact same cause there is no way Kanye would be able to grasp more people,” Hebro detailed to Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club before agreeing with producer, Southside’s, comment that Chance The Rapper is ‘Ye “on steroids.”
