To celebrate Hip-hop’s 45th Cake Day, Mass Appeal asked its co-owner, Nas, and his understudy, Dave East, to name their top five Hip-hop songs ever.

True to what was expected, Nas kept his picks centric to New York by featuring records from accepted pioneers of the genre. His favorites included Public Enemy’s “Rebel Without A Pause,” “Eric B Is President,” by Eric B and Rakim, and more.

Dave East, however, did not rattle his list off with the ease of Nas. Instead, East chose to include two entire projects by Styles P in addition to Eminem’s “Stan.”
